Microsoft has presented their take on online maps, called Bing Maps. Take a look at what they can offer, it’s pretty amazing. It combines maps, Sim City like view, Bing’s panorama photos and end users’ Flickr photos and blog posts into versatile experience. They will also include historical data into their maps.

I’m not sure if the cool features are available for public yet (I haven’t installed Microsoft Silverlight) but Bing Maps work nicely also in normal way. It feels much smoother to operate than Google Maps after a quick test drive.

Wordpress 2.9 (“Carmen McRae”) was released for public downloads on 18th of December, 2009.  The list of new features is long and impressive. For me the built-in post thumbnails feature, called canonical post thumbnails, is the best piece of the new Wordpress revision. Until now there has been various ways (plugins) to implement post thumbnails. Now that it has been built-in the Wordpress core, the thumbnails are properly specified and unified. Wordpress 2.9 also includes a light image editor  which allows to crop, rotate and resize uploaded images and which will bring needed assistance for busy bloggers.
