Yesterday in Barcelona, during Mobile World Congress, Microsoft published their updated and reformed mobile platform which will replace Windows Mobile 6.5 during 2010. The new platform is called Windows Phone 7 Series and it has been designed mobile phones in mind. They have totally rebuilt the new mobile operating system / platform. They have used elements from Zune HD media player and Xbox Live user interfaces. As with all modern mobile devices, the home screen is customizable with “Live Panels”, small widget-style boxes.

Nokia Ovi Maps, a navigation application for Symbian 60 smart phones, became free at the end of January, 2010. Within a week the free application had been downloaded over a million times. At the moment the service works with ten Nokia smartphones and in March it will be included with all Nokia smart phones with built-in GPS. By the end of January, the most active Ovi Maps users were from China, Italy, UK, Germany and Spain and the most used devices were Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia N97, Nokia 5230 and Nokia E72.

Nokia announced yesterday that Nokia Ovi Maps will be free from now on. At first Ovi Maps will be freely available in ten Symbian powered phones with built-in GPS, and in March the service will be included with every new GPS phone. The currently supported devices are Nokia X6, Nokia N97 mini, E72, E55, E52, Nokia 6730 classic, Nokia 6710 Navigator, Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic, Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition and Nokia 5230.
