During the past weekend I got the time to test my new Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm f/4 Flektogon lens. It offers a 79-degree angle on medium format Kiev 60 camera. The lens is well-built (obviously!) and mechanically it works perfectly. I still have to practice focusing with Kiev’s waist level finder but that’s not Flektogon’s fault. Below you can see three photos I took last weekend on Ilford HP5+ 400 black and white film.
I developed the film in 1+50 Rodinal for 11 minutes in 20C. I’m not that into Ilford HP5+ film because it is a bit too contrasty and grainy for my taste. So, I tried to tame the grain by agitating the film tank only every 60 seconds (instead of every 30 seconds). In the beginning I agitated the tank for 30 seconds like always. The grain is much tolerable now but I’m not sure if it’s thanks to the developing or something else.

Yesterday in Barcelona, during Mobile World Congress, Microsoft published their updated and reformed mobile platform which will replace Windows Mobile 6.5 during 2010. The new platform is called Windows Phone 7 Series and it has been designed mobile phones in mind. They have totally rebuilt the new mobile operating system / platform. They have used elements from Zune HD media player and Xbox Live user interfaces. As with all modern mobile devices, the home screen is customizable with “Live Panels”, small widget-style boxes.
According to the keynote speech, Windows Phone 7 won’t include Adobe Flash support in early stages. It will apparently lack also multitasking. Wow, these are the reasons why people mock Apple iPhone!
First Windows Phone 7 devices will be launched by the end of 2010 and early partners are LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and HP. Mobilecrunch (Techcrunch) has already gotten some hands-on experience with the new platform and written about first impressions. You can also try the Windows Phone 7 user interface in a demo (Silverlight installation required).

The packaging design of Apple products is amazing. They really know how to use cardboard, shapes and space. Everything has their own little spot inside the compact box. Package design is one of the most challenging things to do. You need to think of the material costs, logistics, durability… I couldn’t do it.
I got my first iPhone this week. I cannot make calls with it yet because the SIM card has not been activated. It will happen on 17th of February. I tried to resist iPhones for a quite long time but I gave up after I got frustrated with Nokia 5530′s cramped and numb touch screen.
