I have a relatively new phone, Nokia 5530 XpressMusic which operates on S60 v5 platform. Last week when I was taking long exposure photos I noticed that the phone does not include a timer. At least I didn’t find such. A timer would be useful when using bulb exposure. I started googling for S60 v5 timer applications and run into a comprehensive blog post by Symbian World. The post introduces dozens of freeware or shareware applications for the new Symbian platform which is used by for example Nokia 5530, Nokia 5800, Nokia N97 and Samsung I8910. The post also includes download links for each application.
I downloaded about 12 applications and installed them. Some didn’t work on Nokia 5530, some were only in Chinese, but some are here to stay. I’m keeping:
- PhoneTorch – turns the phone into flashlight, using phone’s built-in flash
- DeviceInfo
- ScreenSnap – takes screen shots with a push of a button
- SudokuMaster
- Gravity – probably the best Twitter client for S60, runs in demo mode (totally usable) if a license is not purchased
- Time Machine – a retro looking timer that counts up and down, but does not measure tenth of seconds, includes also alarm feature
- Timer – more traditional looking timer with laps and hundredths of seconds
Note: In above screen shots, Time Machine has counted 1 minute and 14 seconds, Time has counted 11,8 seconds.
